Plans for 2022, A biodiversity Action Plan and Circular Economy Event

  Well, the New Year started off well for our group. We got word in January that we had successfully been awarded a grant of €4,000 in order to do a biodiversity analysis of our area. This is a great opportunity to work with an ecologist to get a detailed look at the different species in Kilcullen and to work on a plan to support all the ecosystems around us.  On the 12th February, some of our members met with Nuala, our ecologist, to take a walk around Kilcullen and discuss how to implement the grant. We chatted about the different areas and about how we might get schools and community involved.   Nuala then produced the first of the newsletters for the project. We are very excited to be working with Nuala and that the community will benefit from this grant! Treasure Town 2023 - Celebrating the Circular Economy

  So what is the Circular Economy?  (Image by Freepik) Put simply, it's based around the idea that we move from a linear model of production and consumption, where we produce, buy, use and discard, to a more circular and sustainable process where we reuse, repair, share, and essentially try to extend the lifespan of products. The move towards a more circular economy involves lots of different parts of society, like industry, technology, business, etc. but it's also something that we can all incorporate into our own lives. And that's where Treasure Town comes in!  Our aim is to show all the 'treasure' that is around us in our local area and to encourage people to think of reusing and repairing, or swapping and sharing, rather than buying completely new products.  There are lots of reasons to try and reduce the amount of new things we buy - every product that is completely new has incorporated materials and resources (like water or energy usage) which contribute to ca...
